Seeking to create the conditions for progress in Social Justice, the Ministry of Transport has decided to implement a “pick and card” strategy to organize the process of re-licensing Colombians whose certificate will expire on 20 June 2023.
The aim is to carry out this renewal in a coordinated manner and thus to prevent delays or disruptions in Driver Recognition Centers and Traffic Organizations.
According to the unique National Transit Registry (Runt), approximately 4,377,765 licenses nationwide, which will expire on June 20, correspond to citizens that expire between January 1 and January 31, 2022 under Law No. 2161 of November 26, 2021. , this period has been extended by two years. It should be noted that the decision of the Constitutional Court dated 2022 and numbered C-261 declared Article 11 of the said law unenforceable and left 20 June 2023 as the deadline for renewal.
Therefore, the Ministry of Transport has issued Circular 20224200000137, saying it has created a Pico y Cédula to renew it and avoid congestion at the CRC with transit agents.
Transport Minister Guillermo Francisco Reyes González said, “We urge Colombians to review this summit and identification schedule and to schedule their license renewal in a timely manner and to avoid inconveniences. We know this is a significant number of upgrades, so we hope Colombian men and women go to Driver Recognition Centers as part of this program, especially in cities like the USA. Bogota, Cali, Girardota, Villavicencio and Floridablanca, The place where the most licenses to be renewed are registered.
“It is important to note that of the 4,830,000 people who need to renew their license, approximately 452,235 have done so to date.‘, the Minister of Transport added.
A driver’s license is a document that certifies the ideal conditions of drivers moving on country roads. Its regeneration allows them to know that their carriers have the physical and health conditions to drive, in addition to having the skills and knowledge necessary to move on the roads. In this way, it also contributes to the strengthening of road safety in the country. For this reason, the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) also invites all Colombians to renew their driving licenses as part of their responsibility to protect their own lives and the lives of others while driving.
Orlando Patiño Silva, Runt’s managing director, said, “The platform exists to run citizenship procedures and the system will continue to perform necessary verifications to minimize any attempts at fraud. We encourage people to check the page after making the transaction. runt.com.comWith the ‘Consult a Citizen’ option, both the physical ability test and the driver’s license were uploaded to the platform and the process was completed.”
Transport Inspector Ayda Lucy Ospina Arias said: “I invite citizens who need to renew their license not to leave this process to the last minute. In this way, congestion and negative situations that may occur are prevented. Likewise, I urge support organizations, traffic authorities such as Driver Recognition Centers (CRC) to have all their human and operational capacities to facilitate this process for citizens in an easy, fast and not lengthy manner. This new renewal date was the product of a decision from the Constitutional Court, so the Ministry of Transport applied an “invoice and card” to private vehicle drivers to facilitate this process.
Pico y Cédula will be developed nationwide. Bogotá, as the capital of the country, is expected to be the place where this procedure is most advanced. To prevent the collapse, district officials are working on a special campaign: “As part of the strategy, the Single Service Window has 19 offices across Bogota to serve citizens with expired or soon to expire driver’s licenses. . We have also activated a preferential service through 40 Driver Identification Centers. Since July of this year, we have already renewed nearly 8,000 licenses that expire in June 2023. It is important for those interested to know that the process does not take more than 40 minutes as long as all requirements are met,” said Deyanira Ávila., Mobility Secretary for Bogota.
With this strategy, the Government of Life affirms its commitment to road safety for Colombian men and women to bring about change that will enable progress on the path to Social Justice and make Colombia a World Power for Life.
According to the Single National Traffic Registry, approximately 4,377,000 driver’s licenses with expiration dates between January 1 and January 31, 2022, but covered by Law No. 2161 of November 26, 2021, expire on June 20, 2023.
