Carolina health center is running a simulation of aggression against toilets

JAÉN.- Experts from the ‘Purísima Concepción’ health center in La Carolina conducted a simulation of aggression against toilets and provided safety to public health professionals in order to prepare and train their professionals in such situations. measures and necessary training to minimize potential attacks, as well as providing tools that facilitate proper management.

The activity consists of simulating the attack of a patient who comes to the consultation and is referred to another specialist for organizational reasons, resulting in verbal attacks, insults, shouting and threats against various professionals from the center in question. citizen service area After using the anti-panic software, which consists of a collective alarm that warns other professionals in the center and allows them to support the attacked professional, different professionals come to the place of the attack.

Various professionals from different occupational categories from the health center acted in a coordinated manner in the exercise: administrative assistants, medical staff, nurses and janitors, among others. The importance of the communication process of aggression and the role of professional guide has been deepened.

This action is included in the center’s training plans for Andalusian Healthcare professionals, which include prevention against such aggression, as part of the ‘Plan for the Prevention and Care of Aggressions for professionals in the Andalusian public health system’. It entered into force in 2020. This plan of attack includes a specific program to accompany the attacked professional and a specially trained professional to guide them in preventing and taking action against attacks.

This professional guide figure has the purpose of accompanying the attacked worker, advising on procedures and providing support.

The new plan also provides agile and fast channels so that the person subjected to verbal or physical aggression is not alone immediately after being attacked. In addition, information campaigns explaining how the Andalusian health system works, what a professional can and cannot do, communication studies are carried out to raise awareness of patients and users, and psychological care is provided as long as necessary.

Plan of Aggression

The Ministry of Health and Consumption will count the attacks against health personnel, taking into account the different profiles of the attacking users and the characteristics of the attacks. In this way, the aggressions of users with psychiatric/psychological disorders or some cognitive impairment will be recorded in a differentiated way, as the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) Prevention and Attention Plan has established against aggressions. According to the analysis of this data, 16% of all attacks are perpetrated by users with psychiatric or psychological disorders or suffering from some cognitive disorders.

It is emphasized from the SAS Prevention and Care Plan that this rate remains constant every year and is linked to the type of activity carried out in health centres, ie it is inherent in certain health areas, so preventive measures and actions are mandatory. They may differ in such cases, as there are no comparable attacks with the rest.

The Aggression Plan, approved two years ago, included, as a novelty, a specific program to accompany the attacked professional and a specially trained professional who acts as a guide in preventing aggression and action against them. The plan also provides agile and fast channels so that the person subjected to verbal or physical aggression is not left alone immediately after being attacked. In addition, psychological care is provided as long as necessary.

The plan also came to strengthen safety measures in health centers and safety conditions in workplaces. Likewise, the plan will strengthen the coordination between regional health police interlocutors, health counterparts, center directors and provincial legal counsel.

The plan integrated the contributions of a working group formed by the Ministry of Health and Consumption, involving social agencies, patient associations, lawyers from the Health Administration and State Security Forces and Units.

Currently, Andalusian health centers have security cameras, doorbells at consultation, consultations contacted by intercoms, telephones in consultations, alternative exits or terminals at workstations in consultations with installed anti-panic software.
